The Field Health Policy Survey is the fourth in a series of statewide surveys of California registered voters conducted by The Field Poll on behalf of The California Wellness Foundation. While updating a number of trend measures about voter assessments of the state's health care system, this year's survey focuses most of its attention on California voter reactions to the nation's new health care law and its major provisions.
Some of the survey results that will be shared in the briefing include:
-
Californians' knowledge of the new health care law
-
Levels of support and opposition across political and demographic subgroups, as well as by insurance status and type of insurance coverage
-
Views of how the law will affect the U.S. health care system overall, the health care system in California, and their own health care experiences
-
Californians' biggest worries about the health care system and how have these concerns changed over the past year
-
Changes over time in where Californians would most like to receive their insurance coverage - from their employer, from the government, or by taking personal responsibility for obtaining it
Introductory Remarks: Gary Yates, The California Wellness Foundation

Featured Discussant: Secretary Kim Belshé, California Health and Human Services Agency

A total of 1,522 interviews were conducted by telephone with California registered voters in six languages and dialects -- English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Korean, and Vietnamese. The overall statewide voter sample was augmented with additional interviews with subgroups of Asian voters to permit comparisons across six racial/ ethnic subgroups: non-Hispanic whites, Latinos, African-Americans, Chinese-Americans, Korean-Americans, and Vietnamese-Americans. Funding for the poll was provided by a grant from The California Wellness Foundation.
